Intraguild predation among aphidophagous predators [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
Since the publication of papers by Polis et al. (1989, 1992), intraguild predation (IGP) has been considered in numerous systems and a growing number of papers have been published, demonstrating the ubiquity and the importance of this interaction. It appears that aphidophagous guilds constitute especially favourable systems for IGP.

Accurate and Efficient Behavioral Modeling of GaN HEMTs Using An Optimized Light Gradient Boosting Machine

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Machine Learning (ML) and optimization have permeated almost every aspect of engineering applications. Recent years have seen great traction toward ML‐based GaN HEMT modelling. However, ML‐based GaN HEMT models are mostly developed using variants of Artificial Neural Network (ANN).

Using Q‐methodology to understand stakeholder perspectives on a carnivore translocation

open access: yesPeople and Nature, 2020
Reversing global declines in predator populations is a major conservation objective, though people frequently come into conflict over carnivore conservation.

Role of the Setae in an Ectoparasitic Seal Louse in Reducing Surface Drag: Numerical Modeling Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
The seal louse Echinophthirius horridus has uniquely shaped setae that may reduce drag during its host's dives. Using numerical simulations, this study demonstrates that their natural inclination promotes vortex formation, minimizing friction and energy loss. These findings provide insights into biological surface adaptations and may inspire the design

MoS2 Channel‐Enhanced High‐Density Charge Trap Flash Memory and Machine Learning‐Assisted Sensing Methodologies for Memory‐Centric Computing Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Driven by AI computing demands, this study investigates MoS2 channels for 3D NAND Flash to achieve high‐density, low‐power, and reliable nonvolatile memory. MoS2 enables a large memory window and lower operating voltages with low‐k tunneling layer, demonstrating endurance of 10⁴ cycles and retention of 10⁵ s. Comprehensive analyses and machine learning‐

Camerobiid mites (Acariformes: Raphignathina: Camerobiidae) inhabiting epiphytic bromeliads and soil litter of tropical dry forest with analysis of setal homology in the genus Neophyllobius

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2016
A survey of the camerobiid mites living on epiphytic bromeliads and the forest floor of a Mexican tropical dry forest was carried out. We found three new species of the genus Neophyllobius, which are described in this paper; the first two, namely N ...

Regenerative Hair Pigmentation via Skin Organoids: Adaptive Patterning Mediated by Collagen VI and Semaphorin 3C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The release of COL6A3 by fibroblasts is sensed by the CD44 receptor on melanocytes, activating glutathione (GSH) metabolism and increasing melanocyte survival during skin organoid culture. SEMA3C released by bulge cells binds to the NRP1 receptor on melanocytes, regulating microtubule stability and promoting melanocyte recruitment and function during ...

Fear on the move: predator hunting mode predicts variation in prey mortality and plasticity in prey spatial response.

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, 2014
Ecologists have long searched for a framework of a priori species traits to help predict predator-prey interactions in food webs. Empirical evidence has shown that predator hunting mode and predator and prey habitat domain are useful traits for ...
