Mite predator responses to prey and predator-emitted stimuli
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1981We found that the searching behavior of two acarine predators,Amblyseius fallacis andPhytoseiulus macropilis, for prey,Tetranychus urticae, is affected by the following stimuli: (1) prey silk and associated feces, whose combined physical and chemical properties elicit reduction in the rate of predator movements and longer halts; (2) kairomone extracted

Spider Mites Avoid Plants with Predators
Experimental & Applied Acarology, 1999While searching for food, prey can use cues associated with their predators to select patches with a reduced predation risk. In many cases, odours indicate the presence of both food and predators. Spider mites are known to use odours to locate food and mates, but also to avoid interspecific competitors. We studied the response of the two-spotted spider

Spider Mite and Predator Mite Test, Michigan, 1990
Insecticide and Acaricide Tests, 1991Abstract Fifteen rose plants, 3 ft tall, were moated to restrict movement to and from the test plants. Rose plants potted in 3 gal containers were grown in a research greenhouse at MSU. On 5 Sep precounts were made by sampling 10 leaflets from each rose plant. Leaves were collected randomly from each plant.

Trichomes and spider-mite webbing protect predatory mite eggs from intraguild predation
Oecologia, 2000Predaceous arthropods are frequently more abundant on plants with leaves that are pubescent or bear domatia than on plants with glabrous leaves. We explored the hypothesis that for some predatory mites this is because pubescence affords protection from intraguild predation.

Impact of Lambda-cyhalothrin on Intraguild Predation Among Three Mite Predators
Environmental Entomology, 2003The impact of a sublethal dose of lambda-cyhalothrin on intraguild predation between three mite predators, Hyaliodes vitripennis (Say), Harmonia axyridis Pallas, and Amblyseius fallacis (Garman) was evaluated in laboratory. The symmetry and level of intraguild predation in selected predator combinations were recorded in the absence and presence of ...
