Predatory behavior after hypothalamic lesions in cats

Physiology & Behavior, 1980
Abstract Electrolytic lesions of the hypothalamus were performed in cats tested preoperatively as good mouse killers. It was found that mouse killing behavior was not impaired after hypothalamic damage, whereas mouse consumption was abolished for several weeks.

A measure to quantify predatory publishing is urgently needed

Accountability in Research, 2023
The issue of predatory publishing is of increasing concern to the academic community. In this letter, we express more concern than hope about a recently launched online machine-learning tool that identifies suspected predatory journals based on existing ...

Some aspects of predatory behavior

Aggressive Behavior, 1978
Predatory behavior is conceived of as a loose chain of responses including searching for relevant stimuli, hunting or chasing potential prey, capturing or attacking prey, and killing and feeding on prey. These aspects, which may occur independently, are described and discussed separately with an emphasis on mammalian species of carnivores.

The roots of primate predatory behavior

Journal of Human Evolution, 1978
Evidence is examined that supports the view that in collecting-predatory primates many of the behaviours associated with the predatory component of the subsistence pattern are similar to those occurring during omnivorous collecting activities. General similarities are found between some elements of predatory behavior and some overall features of ...

Predatory Behavior of Argiope aurantia (Lucas)

American Midland Naturalist, 1974
The impact of an insect in the orb web of Argiope aurantia elicits a complex sequence of predatory behavior which can be subdivided on a functional basis into four categories: prey location, prey immobilization, prey transportation and feeding. This paper de- scribes the more common predatory behavior patterns of a Central Texas population of this ...

Predatory versus alimentary behavior after amygdala lesions in cats

Physiology & Behavior, 1978
Abstract In cats the effort of small amygdala lesions on mouse-killing behavior and food intake was studied. After ventromedial amygdala lesions predatory behavior was abolished for several weeks whereas food intake was only slightly diminished. Lesions of dorsolateral amygdala did not impair the effective predatory behavior, but produced a decrease ...

Defensive behavior in rats towards predatory odors: a review

Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 2001
Studies of the response of rodents to predatory odors (mainly cat) have provided useful insights into the nature of defensive behavior. This article reviews work in this area with a focus on a behavioral paradigm recently developed in our laboratory in which we present rats with a piece of fabric collar that has been previously worn by a cat.

Behavioral Diversity of Predatory Arboreal Ants in Coffee Agroecosystems

Environmental Entomology, 2008
Abstract Aspects of predator assemblages that alter predator effects on prey have received extensive recent attention. Among other mechanisms, differences in behavior or resource use within predator trophic levels may enhance predator effects on prey, especially if effects of each predator species differ with environmental conditions. We

Lead exposure potentiates predatory attack behavior in the cat

Environmental Research, 2003
Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that environmental lead exposure is associated with aggressive behavior in children; however, numerous confounding variables limit the ability of these studies to establish a causal relationship. The study of aggressive behavior using a validated animal model was used to test the hypothesis that there is a causal
