Population Dynamics of Rubber Tree Mites

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente, 2020
Calacarus heveae is considered the most common pest mite in rubber tree crops in Southeast and Midwest Brazil. We evaluated the population dynamics of mites in GT 1, PB 235, PR 255 and RRIM 600 rubber tree clones from crops in the Goiás State, Brazil. We

Ants do not prey upon an extrafloral‐nectar‐feeding predatory mite

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
The predatory mite Amblyseius herbicolus is an important natural enemy of various crop pests and occurs in agroforestry coffee systems, where it feeds on the extrafloral nectar of Inga trees. Because extrafloral nectaries are often vigorously defended by ants, we tested whether ants would attack and kill the mites near nectaries.

Ringed micro-habitats as supplementations for predatory mites

open access: yes, 2023
In augmentative biological control, the reproduction, survival and efficiency of predatory mites can be improved by providing supplementations such as artificial micro-habitats and alternative food sources. Building on previous results on food and micro-habitat supplementations for Neoseiulus cucumeris, the present study aimed to i) design a prototype ...

Comparison of bacterial microbiota of the predatory mite Neoseiulus cucumeris (Acari: Phytoseiidae) and its factitious prey Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Acari: Acaridae)

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Neoseiulus cucumeris is a predatory mite used for biological control of arthropod pests. Mass-reared predators are fed with factitious prey mites such as Tyrophagus putrescentiae. Although some information on certain endosymbionts of N.

Temperature‐dependent interspecific interference alters pygmy backswimmer predation on water fleas

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Increasing densities of water mites alter the predation behaviour of pygmy backswimmer, particularly in higher temperatures. Pygmy backswimmer displayed type II functional response across all the treatments. In the absence of water mites, the functional response was higher at 25°C than at 16°C, indicated by a higher space clearance rate.

Occurrence of predatory mites of the Phytoseiidae family on apple-trees in integrated and ecological orchards

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2008
During the 2005-2007, we identified six species of predatory mites in the integrated and an ecological orchard: Phytoseius echinus, Phytoseius macropilis, Euseius finlandicus, Typhlodromus pyri, Paraseiulus triporus and Amblyseius andersoni.

CONCEPTUALISING THE PEDAGOGUE AS WANDERER: WILHELM GENAZINO'S WENN WIR TIERE WÄREN (2011) AND FELICITAS HOPPE'S PIGAFETTA (1999)

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Our paper contemplates wanderer figures in literature as inspiration for rethinking the academic as pedagogue and the practice of reading in the context of ongoing ecological uncertainties. Academia is permeated by performance pressure in teaching and research. By prioritising productivity, growth and speed, universities are complicit with the

Effect of different pollen grains on life table parameters of Neoseiulus barkeri (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

open access: yesPersian Journal of Acarology, 2016
The predatory mite, Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes is one of the most important phytoseiid mites to control phytophagous mites. The effect of different diets such as, corn pollen, walnut pollen, sunflower pollen, date pollen, bee pollen along with the two ...

Liberatory Motherhood: A Framework & Praxis for Caring and Scholaring Otherwise in the Neoliberal Academy

open access: yesGender, Work &Organization, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article contributes to the emergent literature on motherhood in neoliberal higher education by proposing liberatory motherhood as a theoretical framework and praxis to deconstruct and reconstruct motherhood in the neoliberal academy. The author, an early‐career immigrant woman scholar of color, uses feminist autoethnography to critically ...

Does behaviour matter? The role and feasibility of research into arthropod behavioural syndromes to inform invertebrate translocation efforts

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Animal personality plays a key role in translocation success in both wild‐to‐wild and captive‐to‐wild translocations, with important implications for the success of conservation projects. However, the majority of studies so far have explored the link between personality and translocation success in vertebrate translocations, and there has been less ...
