Surface roughness signatures of summer arctic snow-covered sea ice in X-band dual-polarimetric SAR

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing, 2020
Surface roughness of sea ice is primary information for understanding sea ice dynamics and air–ice–ocean interactions. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a powerful tool for investigating sea ice surface roughness owing to the high sensitivity of its ...

Predictive Coding Networks for Temporal Prediction

open access: yesPLOS Computational Biology, 2023
Abstract One of the key problems the brain faces is inferring the state of the world from a sequence of dynamically changing stimuli, and it is not yet clear how the sensory system achieves this task. A well-established computational framework for describing perceptual processes in the brain is provided by the theory of predictive ...

Verification of a non-hydrostatic dynamical core using the horizontal spectral element method and vertical finite difference method: 2-D aspects [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2014
The non-hydrostatic (NH) compressible Euler equations for dry atmosphere were solved in a simplified two-dimensional (2-D) slice framework employing a spectral element method (SEM) for the horizontal discretization and a finite difference method (FDM ...

Ensemble Forecasts for Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Rainfall over the Economic Belt of the Northern Slope of Tianshan Mountains

open access: yes应用气象学报, 2023
The economic belt of the northern slope of Tianshan Mountains (NSTM) has important social, economic and ecological effects in Xinjiang. Thus, it is critical to improve the prediction ability of sub-seasonal to seasonal rainfall in this region.

Regime Specific Predictability in Predictive Regressions [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
Predictive regressions are linear specifications linking a noisy variable such as stock returns to past values of a more persistent regressor with the aim of assessing the presence of predictability. Key complications that arise are the potential presence of endogeneity and the poor adequacy of asymptotic approximations.

Aerosol Indirect Effects on the Predicted Precipitation in a Global Weather Forecasting Model

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Aerosol indirect effects on precipitation were investigated in this study using a Global/Regional Integrated Model system (GRIMs) linked with a chemistry package devised for reducing the heavy computational burden occurring in common atmosphere− ...

Predicting the Predictive Power of IDP Ensembles [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2014
The function of intrinsically disordered proteins may be interpreted in terms of their structural ensembles. The article by Schwalbe and colleagues in this issue of Structure combines NMR and SAXS constraints to generate structural ensembles that unveil important functional and pathological features.

Sustained Therapeutic Efficacy of Intravenous Plasminogen Concentrate in Pediatric Patients With Type 1 Plasminogen Deficiency: An Analysis of Dosing Parameters and Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Type 1 plasminogen deficiency (PLGD‐1) is an ultra‐rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by variants in the PLG gene and affects approximately 1.6 individuals per million. The condition is characterized by decreased plasminogen levels and impaired function, resulting in fibrin‐rich lesions on mucous membranes throughout the body.
