The Effect of Preferential Diffusion on the Soot Initiation Process in Ethylene Diffusion Flames

Flow, Turbulence and Combustion, 2011
The influence of differential diffusion of chemical species in the soot initiation process in turbulent flows is investigated through Direct Numerical Simulations coupled to a compact global chemical mechanisms for ethylene (C2H4) flame combustion (Lovas et al., Combust Sci Tech 182(11):1945–1960, 2010) featuring the important reaction steps for ...

Numerical analysis of laminar diffusion flames—Effects of preferential diffusion of heat and species

Combustion and Flame, 1994
Abstract Numerical computations were made of axisymmetric laminar jet diffusion flames, taking into account detailed chemical kinetics and multicomponent diffusion. The computations are in good agreement with the experimental results of temperature and species concentration in hydrogen/methane/nitrogen fuel flames with coflowing air obtained by ...

Preferential diffusion of oxygen along grain boundaries in polycrystalline MgO

Journal of Applied Physics, 1972
Self-diffusion coefficient of oxygen in polycrystalline MgO can be represented by D=4.5×10−5exp(−60200/RT)cm2/sec for 80–115 mesh particles and by D=1.3×10−5exp(−60200/RT)cm2/sec for 170–200 mesh particles. These two activation energies are exactly the same, but the magnitude of the diffusion coefficients varied from one sample to another.

Preferential Diffusion and the Initiation of Lean Flames of Light Fuels

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1987
Summary: As an attempt to better understand the problem of flame initiation, we study spherical flame kernels whose evolutions are triggered by a time- dependent, localized source of energy in a lean mixture of a light fuel, a heavier oxidizer, and a diluent in large excess.

Preferential diffusion effects on flame characteristics in H2/CO syngas diffusion flames diluted with CO2

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2008
Abstract Numerical study is conducted to clarify preferential diffusion effects of H 2 and H on flame characteristics in synthetic diffusion flames of the compositions of 80% H 2 /20% CO and 20% H 2 /80% CO as representatively H 2 -enriched and CO-enriched H 2 /CO flames.

Study of a diffusion flamelet model, with preferential diffusion effects included

2005
The non-premixed flamelet model of Peters [1] (model1), which does not include preferential diffusion effects is investigated. Two similar models are presented, but without the assumption of unity Lewis numbers. One of these models was derived by Peters & Pitsch [2] (model2), while the other one was derived by Delhaye [3] (model3).

Preferential sputtering of binary alloys with diffusion: The equilibrium distribution

Radiation Effects, 1978
Abstract The preferential sputtering of a binary alloy is considered using diffusion theory. It is shown that this leads to non-linear-terms in both the bulk diffusion equation and the boundary conditions. The steady-state solution is investigated in detail, and the results indicate that some of the non-linearities are negligible, while others cannot ...
