Topology-based preform design optimization for blade forging
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016Preform design plays a significant role in forging design especially for parts with complex shapes. Conventional preform design approaches include trial-and-error approach, electric field method, and shape optimization-based approaches. In this paper, by introducing the structural design optimization concept, a 3D topological preform design ...

Evolutionary forging preform design optimization using strain-based criterion
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013Preform design plays an important role in forging design especially for parts with complex shapes. In this paper, an attempt was made to develop a topological optimization approach for the preform design in bulk metal forming processes based on the bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization strategy. In this approach, a new strain-based element

Blanking productions in mechanical engineering (press forging, foundry and other productions), 2021
Methods of preform design in hot-die forging are analyzed. It is noted that despite numerous works in this fi eld, preform design is still often based on the trial-and-error method. The isothermal surfaces method for preform design is proposed and its mathematical basis is considered. The procedure for determining of the preform shape is given.

Preform design in disk forging
International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1986Abstract The investigation deals with a preform design problem in an axisymmetric disk forging where it is required to produce a uniformly deformed flat disk under the presence of friction at the die-workpiece interface. The backward tracing scheme by the finite element method was applied with criteria for controlling the boundary conditions during ...

Abstract A finite element based sensitivity analysis method for preform die shape design in metal forging by controlling the deformation uniformity is developed in this paper. The optimization problem is to minimize the effective strain variation within the final forging through optimizing the preform die shape, so that a more uniform deformation ...

Preform design in shell nosing at elevated temperatures
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1987Abstract The method of backward tracing of deformation processes has been applied successfully to preformdesign in metal forming. In this investigation the method was extended to include the effect of temperature. The basic formulation for the method is presented and the solution scheme is described with the emphasis on the coupled thermoviscoplastic

Evolutionary Topological Optimisation for Preform Design
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011In this paper, a topological preform design optimisation method was proposed based on the evolutionary structural optimisation (ESO) method. In this algorithm, new criteria for element elimination and addition were developed and a boundary smooth technique was employed to improve the boundary quality.
