[Isolation and characterization of pregnancy associated alpha2 glycoprotein].
Blut, 1977A method using immunoadsorbents for the isolation of pregnancy-associated alpha2-glycoprotein (alpha2-PAG) from the extract of human placentae is described. The physical properties and the chemical composition of the purified protein are determined: alpha2PAG sediments with 11,5 S, has a molecular weight of 360 000 daltons and is composed of subunits ...

Pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAG) as pregnancy markers in the ruminants.
Journal of physiology and pharmacology : an official journal of the Polish Physiological Society, 2006In the last years, a polymorphic family of placenta-expressed proteins has been discovered in ruminant species and used for pregnancy diagnosis. Pregnancy diagnosis is an important part in reproduction management of ruminants. The pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAG) are synthesized in the mono- and binucleate cells of the ruminant's trophectoderm.

The two main groups of placental proteins of ruminants are discussed in this paper: chorionic somatomammotropins (placental lactogens) and pregnancy-specific (-associated) proteins. Placental lactogens belong to the prolactin and growth hormone family. They stimulate mammogenesis, fetal growth and maternal metabolism.

Pregnancy-associated glycoproteins in sheep: breeds, techniques and achievements
2013The aim of the present review is to summarize the achievements on pregnancy-associated glycoproteins in sheep during the last 20 years on terms of results obtained after purifications, molecular biology, radio-immunoassays (RIA), enzyme linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA), double radial immune-diffusion (Ouchterlony) and Western blot techniques.
