Ostomy and Pregnancy

Pregnancy in a woman with ostomy poses significant concern in its management. A search for literature addressing this problem revealed minimal information. Questionnaires on this subject were sent to all of the members of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the replies received from them were analyzed by the computer.

Dysgerminoma and pregnancy

Abstract Pregnancies before and after removal of dysgerminoma have been reported, but removal of the tumor during pregnancy is rare. The case herein reported showed a woman with dysgerminoma delivered of a living baby by low forceps and episiotomy, who went into shock two hours later, recovered, and went home ten days later.

Triplet Pregnancy

Summary: Five triplet pregnancies are described. None of these terminated prematurely. The perinatal mortality was 33%, while the sex ratio was 150:100. There was one set of conjoined twins. The literature on triplet pregnancy is reviewed and the incidence, aetiology, diagnosis, complications and management are discussed.

It has been shown that pregnancy often worsens known diabetes increases the insulin requirement in juvenile type diabetes and may produce a state of "temporary diabetes" in women who were previously considered normal. Triplet Pregnancy

SummaryA series of 14 triplet pregnancies has been analyzed. The older triplet mother had a better chance of fetal survival than the younger mother. Parity did not appear to have much effect on fetal survival but the maturity of the infants at birth had more influence than did birth weight, on their survival.

Severe adverse effects can be avoided if smoking is stopped early The harm to infants of in utero exposure to tobacco smoke from maternal smoking is well established,1 2 and a quarter of a century has passed since it was first shown in a clinical trial that stopping smoking during pregnancy could avoid the adverse effects of smoking on birth weight.3
