Performance of novel sludge-bed anaerobic membrane bioreactor (SB-AnMBR) treating prehydrolysis liquor

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2013
The feasibility of a novel sludge-bed anaerobic membrane bioreactor (SB-AnMBR) configuration for treating a waste stream from a dissolving pulp production industry was evaluated. The waste stream, called prehydrolysis liquor (PHL), is generated after the wood chips are subjected to high temperature steam to remove unwanted hemicelluloses.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO METHODS FOR EVALUATING FIVE-CARBON SUGARS IN EUCALYPTUS EXTRACTION LIQUOR

open access: yesBioResources, 2009
Alkaline pre-extraction and hydrothermal hydrolysis were carried out with eucalyptus chips. Two methods were used to determine and calculate the extraction yield of five-carbon sugars.

Insight into protein crosslinking and casein polymerization in pre- and posthydrolyzed lactose-free ultra-high-temperature milk during long-term storage

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: During processing and storage of both conventional and lactose-hydrolyzed UHT milk (LHM), aggregation of milk proteins occurs. Protein aggregation can inter alia occur via nonreducible covalent cross-links derived from either Maillard or dehydroalanine

tRNA 3\u27-amino-tailing for stable amino acid attachment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Amino acids are attached to the tRNA 3\u27-end as a prerequisite for entering the ribosome for protein synthesis. Amino acid attachment also gives tRNA access to nonribosomal cellular activities.

Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) of Low-Moisture Anhydrous Ammonia (LMAA) Pretreatment Method for Corn Stover [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) plays an important role in assessing economic performance and potential market acceptance for new technologies. Previous work has shown that the construction and operation of a cellulosic bioethanol plant can be very ...

The conversion of lignocellulosics to fermentable sugars: A survey of current research and application to CELSS [PDF]

open access: yes
An overview of the options for converting lignocellulosics into fermentable sugars as applied to the Closed Ecological Life Support System (CELSS) is given. A requirement for pretreatment is shown as well as the many available options.

Noncariogenic Sweeteners: Sugar Substitutes for Caries Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The evidence is clear that the incidence of dental caries is related to the frequency of eating sugar. The use of sugar substitutes is a suggested way of reducing sugar intake.
