Water Prehydrolysis of Moso Bamboo Dissolving Pulp

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
The chemical comcomposition and water prehydrolysis of moso bamboo were studied to prepare high grade dissolving pulp. The results indicated that the moso bamboo was an appropriate none-wood material for great dissolving pulp goten as its high cellulose content.

Improvements in the methanolysis of pectins by enzymic prehydrolysis

Carbohydrate Research, 1989
In order to improve the methanolysis of pectins, enzymic prehydrolysis was carried out. The methyl glycosides released were analyzed by h.p.l.c. The results were compared with those obtained by methanolysis with M HCl in methanol, and H 2 SO 4 in methanol by colorimetric determination of the content of galacturonic acid, as well as by g.l.c.

Prehydrolysis Pulping with Fermentation Coproducts

2012
Prehydrolysis coupled with traditional pulping methods is a forest biorefinery approach to add valuable fermentation-based coproducts to existing pulp and paper production. This chapter will review research on pulping procedures to release the hemicellulose extract from commercially important wood species; extract hydrolysis, inhibitor removal ...

SO2 prehydrolysis for high yield ethanol production from biomass

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1988
The advantages of the use of SO2 in steam pretreatment are described. Two different large scale continuous reactors, the Stake and the Wenger, have been used for this purpose. Pine, aspen and corn stover were prehydrolysed by SO2 in these reactors and hydrolysed by enzymes.

Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles as Additives for Microwave-Based Sludge Prehydrolysis: A Perspective

Environmental Science & Technology, 2023
Wastewater treatment plants are critical for environmental pollution control. The role that they play in protecting the environment and public health is unquestionable; however, they produce massive quantities of excess sludge as a byproduct. One pragmatic approach to utilizing excess sludge is generating methane via anaerobic digestion.

SO2-catalysed prehydrolysis of coniferous wood for ethanol production

Biotechnology Letters, 1986
This paper reports studies of large scale, 1500 kg/h, SO2-catalysed prehydrolysis of coniferous wood chips, samples then being hydrolyzed by a wood-saccharifying enzyme system followed by fermentation to ethanol in the laboratory. Hemicellulose hydrolysis using SO2 catalyst (prehydrolysis) was found to be more effective than steam alone (autohydrolysis)

Characteristics of prehydrolysis-kraft pulp fibers from Scots pine

Holzforschung, 2012
Abstract To clarify the influence of prehydrolysis on fiber characteristics, Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood chips were subjected to pressurized hot-water and dilute-acid prehydrolysis (0.5% H2SO4) prior to kraft pulping to partially remove hemicelluloses as hydrolyzate.

Dissolving-grade birch pulps produced under various prehydrolysis intensities: quality, structure and applications

Cellulose, 2014
Aqueous-phase prehydrolysis followed by alkaline pulping is a viable process to produce wood-based dissolving pulps. However, detailed characterisation of the achievable pulp quality, performance and cellulose structure is yet lacking. In this study, the production of hemicellulose-lean birch soda-anthraquinone pulps after prehydrolysis under various ...
