Specific BAs are involved in maintenance of gut barrier function. BA metabolism may be disturbed in IBD and diabetes. This might be solved by supplementing the diet with specific dietary fibers such as DM19HB and DM43HB pectins. Gut epithelial barrier disruption is commonly observed in Western diseases like diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
