The Questions That Never Came: How National Judges Use Their Discretion in the Preliminary Ruling Procedure

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Empirical Legal Studies
While domestic judges ultimately decide whether to refer questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), little is known about how the idea to refer is introduced in national litigation or about the decision (not) to refer.

High‐Throughput Data Generation and Transfer Learning Enabled Microstructure‐Property Integrated Design of Nickel‐Based Powder Metallurgy Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated transfer learning framework integrates CALPHAD simulations, diffusion‐multiple experiments, and literature data to predict long‐term microstructural stability and short‐term mechanical properties of Ni‐based powder metallurgy superalloys. Based on these model predictions, a high‐performance, low‐density alloy, USTB‐PM750, is designed from

Suspension of the Main Proceedings and Referral for a Preliminary Rul-ing. Gloss to the Judgment of the CJEU in Case C-176/22, Bk And ZhP, of 17 May 2023

open access: yesReview of European and Comparative Law
The preliminary reference as an appeal of the Court of Justice of the European Union presents many complexities and complicated interpretations over time, given that we have a national judge in the scene of the appeal process, often creating problems but

High‐Throughput Screening and Interpretable Machine Learning for Rational Design of Bimetallic Catalysts for Methane Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Methane's efficient catalytic removal is vital for sustainable development. Bimetallic catalysts, though promising for methane activation, pose a design challenge due to their complex compositional space. This work introduces an integrated framework that combines high‐throughput density functional theory (DFT) and interpretable machine ...

Neuromorphic Near‐Sensor and In‐Sensor Computing Enabled by Next‐Generation Material‐Based Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This Review presents a structural framework that classifies neuromorphic sensing into near‐sensor and in‐sensor architectures, clarifying physical coupling between sensing and computation. The framework connects neural and synaptic device functions with recent advances in optical, mechanical, and chemical sensing, compares energy consumption and ...

Leonurine Ameliorates Doxorubicin‐Induced Cardiotoxicity via STING/NF‐κB/NLRP3 Inflammasome Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Doxorubicin‐induced cardiomyopathy (DIC) remains a dose‐limiting clinical challenge. This study reveals that cardiac vascular endothelial cells (CVECs) act as initial sensors of doxorubicin cardiotoxicity: circulating doxorubicin activates the cGAS‑STING pathway in CVECs, triggering NLRP3 inflammasome‑mediated pyroptosis and release of ...

Automated Extraction of Multicomponent Alloy Data Using Large Language Models for Sustainable Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large language model (LLM) based pipeline is developed to automatically extract a comprehensive and accurate multicomponent alloy database from literature corpus. The extracted dataset is integrated with sustainability indicators to identify potential alloys that outperform existing industrial benchmark materials in terms of both performance and ...

Entropy Decoding the Fundamental Law of Phase Competition in Glass Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We validate the integration of intermetallic and eutectic phases as initial phases for composition design. The phase competition mechanism in glass formation is quantitatively clarified based on the melting entropy of competing phases. Glass‐forming ability is modulated by tuning phase competition via the melting entropy of initial phases.

Photoelectric‐Coupled Ferroelectric Heterojunctions for Ultrahigh NO2 Sensing With Polarization‐Memory‐Assisted Interfacial Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a Bi2WO6/SrBi2Ta2O9 heterojunction where light‐driven ferroelectric polarization reversal couples with persistent photoconductivity, enabling exclusive NO2 selective room‐temperature sensing. The device achieves a two‐order‐of‐magnitude sensitivity enhancement over an unpolarized device, a sub‐ppb detection limit, and robust ...

Why Do So Few Preliminary Questions Come From Czechia?

open access: yesWroclaw Review of Law, Administration and Economics
Although a substantial part of the body of laws of an EU Member State is founded upon European Union law and norms, the number of preliminary questions emanating from courts in the Czech Republic appears to be disproportionately low compared to other ...
