Resolving three GABA induced electrogenic events and GABA‐coupling stoichiometry for Na+ and Cl− in hGAT‐1

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using solid‐supported membrane electrophysiology, we resolved three electrogenic events during GABA transport by the human GAT‐1 transporter. A rapid occlusion step (E1) is followed by a GABA‐induced Na+ leak current (E2), which becomes prominent under steep Na+ gradients, and a slower current associated with Na+‐coupled GABA transport (E3 ...

Impact of ultraviolet radiation‐induced damage to hair fiber integrity: A multi‐technique physicochemical characterization of surface and cortex properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
UV exposure induces cuticular and cortical damage in natural hair, with oxidative effects and protein degradation comparable to bleaching. However, double bleaching leads to significantly greater structural degradation, emphasizing distinct mechanisms and severity of chemical versus UV‐induced damage. Abstract The combination of chemist techniques is a

Auxin response and PIN‐mediated transport in chlorophyte algae

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Like multicellular plants, green algae respond to auxin and move it across their cells. However, their PIN‐like proteins do not act like plant auxin exporters, suggesting that basic auxin transport evolved early and specialized directional transport appeared later in plant evolution.

Russia's Wartime Economy: Measuring Regional Inequalities From Outer Space

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study Russia's February 2022 full‐scale invasion of Ukraine as a natural experiment to determine how sudden disruptions to international market access reshape sub‐national economic inequalities. Using remotely‐sensed nighttime lights as a proxy for economic activity, we estimate the economic effects of the war at the national and regional ...

Biomechanical Superiority of the Chinese Knotting Technique in Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Cadaveric Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
In cadaveric PCL reconstruction, the Chinese knotting technique preserves graft mechanics, significantly increases maximum load, and limits elongation, supporting early rehabilitation and reducing failure risk. ABSTRACT Objective We previously developed a novel internal tension‐relieving augmentation suture, the Chinese knotting technique (CKT), which ...
