Hydration for prevention of premature births.

open access: yesNutricion hospitalaria, 2015
Introduction: Preterm births are one of the risk factors that increase infant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Primary prevention and treatment tools are known. Theoretically, hydration may reduce uterine contractility by increasing uterine blood flow and decrease the pituitary secretion of ADH and oxytocin. Objective: Find out if hydration in cases

Submicroscopic Plasmodium falciparum Infections Are Associated With Maternal Anemia, Premature Births, and Low Birth Weight.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2015
BACKGROUND Molecular, as opposed to microscopic, detection measures the real prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum infections. Such occult infections are common during pregnancy but their impact on pregnancy outcomes is unclear. We performed a longitudinal

Enhancing Ceramic Structural and Interfacial Properties via Micro‐Patterning and Macro‐Architectural Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study investigates how laser‐micromachined patterns enhance the interfacial and mechanical properties of bioinspired ceramic composites. The ±45° micro‐pattern significantly improved interfacial bonding and damage dissipation energy by 107%, while integrating micro‐ and macro‐designs increased energy absorption by 60%.

Twin Gestation and Premature Birth [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatology, 2004
Preterm birth before 37 weeks' gestation is the most common catastrophic, and costly complication of pregnancy. In this country, the incidence of preterm birth has risen from 9% in 1981 to above 11% in 2002.1 Prematurity remains the leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, accounting for 60 to 80% of deaths in live born infants without ...

Neurogenesis Continues in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy and Is Suppressed by Premature Birth

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2013
Premature infants exhibit neurodevelopmental delay and reduced growth of the cerebral cortex. However, the underlying mechanisms have remained elusive.

Single Administration of AAV‐mAtp6v1b2 Gene Therapy Rescues Hearing and Vestibular Disorders Caused by Atp6v1b2‐Induced Lysosomal Dysfunction in Hair Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wei et al. establish a hair cell‐specific conditional knockout mouse model (Atp6v1b2fl/fl;Atoh1Cre/+), and demonstrate the importance of Atp6v1b2 for hair cell through maintaining the survival of lysosomes. A single administration of AAV‐ie‐Eh3‐mAtp6v1b2 through scala media at P0‐P2 realizes function compensation and restores hearing and balance ...

Premature Unilateral Ripening in Euonymus alatus: Two Hits Leave(s) a Red Face [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
An empirical 2-hit hypothesis is presented to account for premature and unilateral ripening in Euonymus alatus.
