Genomics in premature infants: A non-invasive strategy to obtain high-quality DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We used a cost-effective, non-invasive method to obtain high-quality DNA from buccal epithelial-cells (BEC) of premature infants for genomic analysis. DNAs from BEC were obtained from premature infants with gestational age ≤ 36 weeks.

Current and future roles of artificial intelligence in retinopathy of prematurity [PDF]

open access: yes
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a severe condition affecting premature infants, leading to abnormal retinal blood vessel growth, retinal detachment, and potential blindness. While semi-automated systems have been used in the past to diagnose ROP-related plus disease by quantifying retinal vessel features, traditional machine learning (ML) models ...

Postnatal Progressive Craniosynostosis: An Unusual Case Presentation Leading to Cascade Diagnosis for Multiple Generations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT NM_000141.5: FGFR2 c.1032G>A is a pathogenic variant that causes Crouzon syndrome through activation of a new donor splice site. This clinical report highlights the intrafamilial variability that can exist with this specific variant. The proband is a 4‐year‐old boy who initially presented with concern for seizures.

Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia in premature infants

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2016
Premature infants are referred to the specific risk group for developing iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Depending on the time of occurrence and pathogenetic mechanisms, anemia in premature infants is classified into several types among which only late ...

Machine learning without a feature set for detecting bursts in the EEG of preterm infants [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Deep neural networks enable learning directly on the data without the domain knowledge needed to construct a feature set. This approach has been extremely successful in almost all machine learning applications. We propose a new framework that also learns directly from the data, without extracting a feature set.

Growth Charts for Children With Beckwith–Wiedemann Spectrum

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Beckwith–Wiedemann spectrum (BWSp) is an overgrowth disorder caused by (epi)genetic alterations in chromosome 11p15. This study aimed to develop BWSp‐specific growth charts and explore genotype/phenotype correlations with respect to growth. Heights, weights, and head circumferences were retrospectively collected from 581 individuals with BWSp ...

Adverse Cardiovascular Risk Profile and Increased Diurnal Salivary Cortisol in Girls With Turner Syndrome: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Patients with Turner Syndrome (TS) and those exposed to high concentrations of glucocorticoids have a number of characteristics in common, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Pediatric TS patients underwent studies of salivary cortisol (SC) and cortisone (SCn), body composition, continuous glucose monitoring, vascular ...
