Treatment of Premature Sutural Synostosis

Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1981
Premature sutural synostoses are currently being treated at the Craniofacial Center at the Department of Plastic Surgery, University of Göteborg. A leading principle has been to release tethered parts of the skull and the facial skeleton in order to let the expanding brain mould the skeletal parts to an acceptable position.

Craniofacial Growth in Premature Craniofacial Synostosis

Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1981
Serial cephalometric radiographs of 55 patients with different types of premature craniofacial synostoses were analysed. The aim of the study was to answer the following four questions in an effort to provide a better rational for classification, treatment, and possibly add insight into the mechanisms controlling craniofacial growth.

The Early Recognition of Premature Cranial Synostosis

Radiology, 1955
The characteristic roentgen findings in a child with a fully developed craniostenosis are known to most radiologists. These older children have misshapen heads and various neurological disorders, and the roentgenographic picture is typi cal. For example, closure of all the sutures gives rise to oxycephaly. Such a case is shown in Figure 1.

Osteoblast-Directed Osteoclast Metabolism from Patients with Premature Coronal Synostosis

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1997
Osteoclasts were harvested from explants of five patients with premature unilateral coronal synostosis and plated on devitalized bovine bone wafers. The planar surface areas of resorption lacunae were quantitated by means of light microscopy and a digital imaging system.

Premature Closure of the Frontosphenoidal Suture in Synostosis of the Coronal Suture

Radiology, 1971
Fourteen cases of premature coronal synostosis are reviewed. Thirteen of these showed extension into the base of the skull involving the Irontosphenoidal suture. Recognition of this fact is of importance if surgical correction is attempted. Pertinent radiographic findings include narrowing or absence of the coronal suture, shortened frontal bone and ...

Experiments of Nature: Premature Unicoronal Cranial Synostosis in Mantled Howler Monkeys (Alouatta palliata)

The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, 1992
In 1960 Adolph Schultz described several cases of plagiocephaly in a collection of mantled howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata) from the forests of Central America. Since then several more specimens have been described. These individuals make up one of the largest samples of nonhuman primates that are affected by craniosynostosis. In this study, we used
