Turbulence Regime Characterization for Premixed Combustion

2018 AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2018
Turbulent flow properties are investigated within a premixed turbulent combustion facility. The experimental facility is a blow-down afterburner facility that allows for analysis of premixed propane-air combustion over a range of turbulent inflow conditions. To modulate turbulence levels, a dynamic impinging jet grid turbulence generator is used.

Ignition transition in turbulent premixed combustion

Combustion and Flame, 2010
Abstract Recently, Shy and his co-workers reported a turbulent ignition transition based on measurements of minimum ignition energies (MIE) of lean premixed turbulent methane combustion in a centrally-ignited, fan-stirred cruciform burner capable of generating intense isotropic turbulence.

Premixed Turbulent Combustion In Counterflowing Streams

Combustion Science and Technology, 1989
Abstract Premixed turbulent combustion of propane and air is studied experimentally using counterflowing axisymmetric jets. Attributes of this type of burner arrangement for studying turbulent combustion are discussed in terms of flame geometry, bulk and turbulent stretch rates, solid boundaries and measurement access.

Turbulent Premixed Combustion in a Boundary Layer

Combustion Science and Technology, 1984
Abstract The turbulent boundary layer arising from the injection of cold reactants into a hot product stream is studied theoretically. By treating the rate of growth of the boundary layer as a small parameter and by assuming power law variations of global features of the layer the equations of a Reynolds stress closure are reduced to similarity form. Modeling partially premixed turbulent combustion

2001
This paper investigates the process of partially premixed turbulent combustion in situations where the fuel is provided either as a liquid spray or a purely gaseous stream. In the former case, two-dimensional direct numerical simulations in association with a Lagrangian solver for the dispersed vaporizing phase are employed.

The Thermal NO Reduction in Turbulent Premixed Combustion

2005
The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the flame temperature on the thermal NO formation varying the quantity of supplied combustion air and recirculated flue gases in turbulent premixed combustion. In the introduction is described the extended Zeldovich mechanism of thermal NO formation and the influence of the flame temperature as ...

Partially premixed diffusion flamelets in non-premixed turbulent combustion

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985
The structure and extinction of partially premixed diffusion flamelets in a turbulent flow field is analyzed. It is shown that diffusion flamelets are disconnected if the variation of the mixture fraction around stoichiometric is large enough for the corresponding adiabatic flame temperature to be less than a characteristic freezing temperature.
