Preservation solution in heart transplantation

1998
Acute graft failure still accounts for approximately 20–30% of early deaths after heart transplantation [1, 2]. This complication is clearly multifactorial. Thus, some of these failures can be related to the status of the donor heart (unrecognized existence of parietal and/or coronary abnormalities, hemodynamic instability at the time of harvest).

CLINICAL ORGAN PRESERVATION WITH UW SOLUTION

Transplantation, 1989

New Solution for Organ Preservation

1990
Two methods are used to preserve organs for clinical transplantation: simple cold storage (CS) and continuous machine perfusion (MP). Simple cold storage uses a flushing solution to replace the blood in the organ and to cool the organ to about 4°C.
