The Role of Turbulence in Neutrino-Driven Core-Collapse Supernova Explosions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The neutrino-heated "gain layer" immediately behind the stalled shock in a core-collapse supernova is unstable to high-Reynolds-number turbulent convection.

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Causes and Consequences of Interdialytic weight gain

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research, 2016
Background/Aims: Higher interdialytic weight gain (IDWG) is associated with higher predialysis blood pressure and increased mortality. IDWG is also increasingly being recognized as an indicator of nutritional status. We studied in detail the associations

On the first Townsend coefficient at high electric field

open access: yes, 2004
Based on the simplified approach it is shown and experimentally confirmed that gas gain in wire chambers at very low pressure becomes higher on thicker wires at the same applied high voltage.

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...

PI gain tuning for pressure-based MFCs with Gaussian mixture model

open access: yesScientific Reports
A vast number of mass flow controllers (MFCs) are used in semiconductor industry. For the stable supply, an efficient production method of MFC is required.

Analysis of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Rotating Detonation Turbine Based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition Method

open access: yesAerospace
The unsteady interactions in rotating detonation turbine engines (RDTE) remain poorly understood. To address this, a 2D numerical model integrating a rotating detonation combustor (RDC) with a first-stage turbine is established to analyze flow structures

Micromegas operation in high pressure xenon: charge and scintillation readout

open access: yes, 2010
The operational characteristics of a Micromegas operating in pure xenon at the pressure range of 1 to 10 bar are investigated. The maximum charge gain achieved in each pressure is approximately constant, around 4x10^2, for xenon pressures up to 5 bar and

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...
