Dynamic Modeling of Pressure Reducing Valves

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2003
Models are currently available for representing the dynamical behavior of most water network components. Such models are relatively simple, accurate and can be easily solved. However, there is no generally accepted dynamic model of a pressure reducing valve (PRV).

Synchronizer controlled by a proportional pressure reducing valve

2019 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), 2019
Proportional pressure throttling control characteristics of the synchronizer engagement process was studied. The model of the synchronizer and its electronically controlled hydraulic actuator was built, and then verified by the simulation and the test bench.

Modeling of Pressure Reducing Valves Revisited

WRPMD'99, 1999
The problem of simulating the steady state of water networks is very well known. There are many papers that have been written about this subject. Also there are software packages available for this purpose. However there is no explicitly described method to model the pressure reducing valves (PR\‘s).

Optimal Orifice Geometry for a Hydraulic Pressure-Reducing Valve

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1997
In this paper, the flow gain of a hydraulic pressure-reducing valve is examined. It is noted that classical linear-analysis is typically used to optimize the flow gain of hydraulic control-systems and that in practice this parameter is usually nonlinear.

Modeling of a pressure reducing valve actuator for automotive applications

2009 IEEE Control Applications, (CCA) & Intelligent Control, (ISIC), 2009
Significant research effort has been directed towards developing vehicle systems that reduce the energy consumption of an automobile and because pressure control valves are used as actuators in many control applications for automotive systems, a proper dynamic model is necessary.

An observer design for a poppet type pressure reducing valve

2011 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2011
This paper presents an observer design that may be used to improve the response and stability characteristics of a solenoid operated pressure-reducing valve. Most pressure-reducing valves have very little inherent damping, and can potentially exhibit unstable behavior due to fluid velocity effects during the opening of the poppet.

Purposes and Limits of Pressure‐Reducing Valves

Opflow, 1988
This article discusses how pressure‐valves function in a treatment plant or distribution system. The capabilities and limitations of the valves are discussed as well as the role of utility operators in maximizing their efficiency.
