Abstract The currently urgent subject of pressure vessel integrity under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) conditions is discussed. A survey of events leading to PTS is made. The position of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission on the subject is given. Finally the action taken by utilities to mitigate the effects of PTS on reactor vessels is described.

Abstract Analysis of plume mixing in the annulus of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) are presented. The plume mixing analysis is based on a simple two-dimensional model that accounts for the surrounding flow and confinement.
