Calculation of P.C.P.V. prestressing forces
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1968Abstract An integrated system of stress analysis programs is being developed at the Berkeley Nuclear Laboratories to assess the conditions in the plant operated by the C.E.G.B., and to study the effects of long-term operation. A knowledge of the body and boundary forces sustained by a Prestressed Concrete Pressure Vessel is required to completely ...

Natural frequencies of bonded and unbonded prestressed beams–prestress force effects
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2006Abstract The paper rigorously presents the effect of the magnitude of the prestress force on the natural frequencies of prestressed beams with bonded and unbonded tendons. A nonlinear analytical model is formulated for the dynamic behavior of prestressed beams, in order to achieve this goal.

Splitting failure of precast prestressed concrete during the release of the prestressing force
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2009Abstract Bond between steel and concrete is fundamental for the transmission of stresses between both materials in precast prestressed concrete. Indented wires are used to improve the bond in these structural elements. The radial component of the prestressing force, increased by Poisson’s effect, may split the surrounding concrete, decreasing the ...

Electro-Mechanical Impedance-Based Prestress Force Monitoring in Prestressed Concrete Structures
2021The motivation of this study is to present a numerical simulation for identification of the loss of prestress force in prestressed concrete structures using electro-mechanical impedance responses. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented.

Effects of Nonsymmetrical Prestressing Forces on Torsion in Prestressed Thin-Walled Flexural Members
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2016AbstractTorsional resistance of a single prestressing tendon was derived on the basis of the theorem of virtual work to control the torsional rotation by nonequal prestressing forces on both sides of the webs of a flexural member. The energy formulation revealed that the vertical component of the prestressing force has a significant role in resisting ...

Residual Prestress Forces and Shear Capacity of Salvaged Prestressed Concrete Bridge Girders
Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2012Seven prestressed concrete bridge girders that had been in service for 42 years, and represented two span lengths and reinforcement designs, were tested to determine their effective prestress force and ultimate shear capacity. A cracking moment test was used to determine the effective prestress force in the girders.

The force on a prestressed body in a curved space
Journal of Physics A: Mathematical, Nuclear and General, 1973Exploring some aspects of the linearized theory of general relativity, the authors discover new possibilities for experimental tests. A new design for a gravitational wave detector is suggested. The starting point of these investigations is a part of newtonian mechanics whose study helps to understand some of the puzzling features of general relativity.

Computation-Effective Method for Prestress Force and Moving Force Identification
IABSE Reports<p>Structural health monitoring (SHM) of existing prestressed concrete bridges (PCBs) is of paramount importance due to the direct impact of failures on the safety of the bridge users. Numerous studies have been conducted to identify the existing prestress force and moving force, however, most of the methods face practical challenges and suffer ...

Force identification of prestressed pin-jointed structures
Computers & Structures, 2011This study deals with the problem of identifying the member forces in a prestressed pin-jointed structure. For the purpose of evaluation of the identification accuracy, we first present the formulation of identification error, where measurement errors in member forces as well as nodal coordinates are incorporated.

Monitoring Prestress Forces in a Box Girder Bridge
1990This article presents a study of prestress losses measured directly in the field by instrumenting several tendons of an actual post-tensioned box girder bridge. The measured losses are found to be in general agreement with theoretical value but deviate from them afterward. Possible explanations for the differences are discussed.
