Spatial Perspective-Taking and Pretend Play
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980To test the hypothesis that pretend play has a facilitatory effect on young children's spatial perspective taking, 45 children were individually engaged in fantasy or non-fantasy interactions with an adult, after which they were administered 3 standard perspective-taking tasks by a blind examiner. Evidence in support of the hypothesis was found.

Play behaviour was assessed by using a selected set of Duplo Lego toys.

Effects of modelling on children's pretend play
Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 1989The effects of modelling on pretend play were studied in children between 2.6 and 3.6 years of age by examining changes both in the action and language‐based expressions of pretending. Three modelled scenes were demonstrated with the same realistic toys used by the child in the pre‐modelling phase.
