The most effective action in neonatal resuscitation is ventilation. A novel algorithm for mask ventilation, the “Five Breath Method”, incorporates steps that an airway expert would use, from least to most invasive. Training in the “Five Breath Method” leads to immediate improvement in mask ventilation and retention of this skill.
