Intrauterine Infection and Preterm Labor [PDF]

open access: yesInfectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1994
Preterm birth remains the leading cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Evidence suggests that intrauterine infection plays an important role in the pathogenesis of preterm labor. This article reviews the clinical data supporting this theory and the cellular and biochemical mechanisms by which intrauterine infection may initiate uterine ...

Subtle Signals: Video-based Detection of Infant Non-nutritive Sucking as a Neurodevelopmental Cue [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Non-nutritive sucking (NNS), which refers to the act of sucking on a pacifier, finger, or similar object without nutrient intake, plays a crucial role in assessing healthy early development. In the case of preterm infants, NNS behavior is a key component in determining their readiness for feeding.

Anemia, ferritin and preterm labor [PDF]

open access: yesjpme, 1988
The results of this study suggest that the additional determination of serum ferritin in pregnancy is necessary for a more reliable classification of iron deficiency. In 300 pregnant women the hematological values (Hb, MCH and serum ferritin) were determined toward the end of gestation.
