Abundance of a cryptic generalist parasite reflects degradation of an ecosystem
Abstract Ecosystem degradation due to anthropogenic activities is the primary issue of our times. Theoretical analyses as well as efforts to restore and manage ecosystems depend on comprehensive metrics of ecosystem function. In the case of complex ecosystems such as tropical coral reefs—especially where monitoring, management, and restoration are ...

The Perciformes are characterized by a remarkable chromosomal homogeneity, with a small percentage of its representatives bearing diploid numbers higher or lower than their putative basal number (2n=48). Due to the wide diversity of this group, several families from this order lack cytogenetic reports, such as Gerreidae and Priacanthidae.

The fish genus Cookeolus Fowler, 1928 has been in use for a genus of longfinned bigeyes for 90 years, with the combination Cookeolus japonicus (Cuvier, 1829) being widely listed as the only species in the genus. However, the type species of the genus, Anthias boops Schneider in Bloch & Schneider, 1801, is a junior synonym of another bigeye ...

Occurrence of the arrow Bulleye Priacanthus sagittarius (Teleostei: Priacanthidae) in the Egyptian coast of the Mediterranean Sea [PDF]
Priacanthus sagittarius and P. arenatus are the only two priacanthid species recorded from the Mediterranean Sea. The Arrow Bulleye Priacanthus sagittarius is reported for the first time from Egyptian waters of the Mediterranean Sea. On 19 May 2015, a single juvenile specimen (129 mm total length) of P.

Deciphering complex coral reef soundscapes with spatial audio and 360° video
Abstract Coral reef soundscapes hold an untapped wealth of biodiversity information. While they are easy to record and filled with snapping shrimp and fish sounds, they are difficult to decipher because we know little about which sounds are made by which species. With identified fish sounds, acoustic monitoring can directly inform biodiversity metrics,
