Isopods (Isopoda: Aegidae, Cymothoidae, Gnathiidae) associated with Venezuelan marine fishes (Elasmobranchii, Actinopterygii)

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2006
The parasitic isopod fauna of fishes in the southern Caribbean is poorly known. In examinations of 12 639 specimens of 187 species of Venezuelan fishes, the authors found 10 species in three families of isopods (Gnathiids, Gnathia spp.

Crecimiento, mortalidad y tasa de explotación de Priacanthus arenatus (Perciformes: Priacanthidae), en la pesca de arrastre del nororiente de Venezuela

open access: yes, 2017
We analyzed growth; mortality and exploitation rate of Priacanhus arenatus, captured by the shrimp trawling fishery (1989-1996), in northeastern Venezuela. The growth coefficient (K) and the asymptotic length (L8) were estimated by length-frequency data using the Battacharya method and other routines of the FISAT program.

Optimizing a metabarcoding marker portfolio for species detection from complex mixtures of globally diverse fishes

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 5, Issue 6, Page 1589-1607, November 2023., 2023
We assessed the performance of 22 DNA metabarcoding primer sets for detecting 103 species of marine and freshwater bony fishes, elasmobranchs, cephalopods, and crustaceans. We find that a portfolio of four markers targeting 12S, 16S, and multiple regions of COI identifies all reference taxa to family and nearly 60% to species.

Length‐Weight Relationships and Relative Condition Factor of 53 Species of Shallow‐Water Fish in the Colombian Caribbean Sea

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Length‐weight relationships (LWR) were described for 53 species of shallow‐water fish caught with bottom trawls in a depth range between 7.3 and 108.1 m during September 2013 in the Colombian Caribbean Sea (fishing area 31 of the FAO). A linear regression was performed using the logarithmically transformed data to calculate a and b coefficients and ...

Reef Fish Assemblage Through Space and Time in a Thermal Transition Zone in the Southwestern Atlantic

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Assessing the structure of reef fish assemblages and their spatiotemporal changes (β‐diversity) in seven reef locations across a thermal transition zone in the southwestern Atlantic. Location Eastern Brazilian coast, from the northern Abrolhos Bank (17° S; 26.37°C) to the southern Espírito Santo state (20° S; 21.13°C). Methods We used four‐
