The causal relationship between doxazosin and priapism, in the absence of other alternative causes, was suspected in our patient in view of the temporal sequence of the drug administration, particularly when the dosage had been increased, and the appearance of the condition.

Idiopathic priapism is rarely seen in children. Two children with idiopathic priapism are presented, followed by a detailed discussion of priapism. Particular attention is paid to idiopathic priapism. Additionally, an algorithm for diagnosing and managing children presenting with priapism is presented.

Ninety-three dialysis units located in the tri-state area were surveyed for the prevalence of priapism. Seventeen of 3,337 male patients experienced an episode of priapism. All of these episodes occurred either during or 2–7 h after dialysis, suggesting a cause-and-effect relationship.

Priapism of the clitoris is a rare entity. A case of painful priapism is reported in a patient who had previously suffered a radical cystectomy for bladder carcinoma pT3-GIII, followed by local recurrence in the pelvis. From a symptomatic point of view she showed a good response to conservative treatment (analgesics and anxiolytics), as she refused ...

Priapism, the persistent painful erection unrelated to sexual stimuli, is called malignant whenever the priapism is due to metastases. A new case of malignant priapism, secondary to metastases of prostatic carcinoma is presented. As usual, survival was poor--our patient died 3 months after diagnosis was established.

During a 10-year period 11 cases of priapism were treated with a saphenocavernous bypass. Uniformly good functional results were obtained if the procedure was done within 36 hours of the commencement of priapism. Prior aspiration and irrigation appear to lengthen this interval. The formation of temporary cavernovenous communication with the superficial

A patient taking oral risperidone while using cocaine and alcohol presented with priapism shortly after long-acting, injectable risperidone was prescribed. Another case of priapism was diagnosed in a sickle cell disease patient who was on oral risperidone.

Priapism is persistent penile erection in the absence of sexual stimulation. The pattern of blood flow to the penis that occurs during normal erection is altered so that sustained priapism may result in edema, increased risk of abrasion, tissue drying and necrosis of the penis. Numerous causes have been reported in animals and humans.

We report the third documented case of partial priapism. The proximal right corpus was distended and separated from the distral flaccid corpus by a transverse membrane. Histologic examination revealed the obstructing lesion to be owing to thrombosis of vascular erectile tissue probably secondary to trauma.
