Biocatalytic N-Alkylation of Amines Using Either Primary Alcohols or Carboxylic Acids via Reductive Aminase Cascades.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2019
The alkylation of amines with either alcohols or carboxylic acids represents a mild and safe alternative to the use of genotoxic alkyl halides and sulfonate esters.

Safety and efficacy of aryl‐substituted primary alcohol, aldehyde, acid, ester and acetal derivatives belonging to chemical group 22 when used as flavourings for all animal species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2017
Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of 18 compounds belonging to chemical group (CG) 22.

Establishment of salicylic acid derived silylation reagents for protection of alcohols

open access: yesResults in Chemistry, 2021
In this work, we describe salicylic acid derived 2-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]-benzoic acid methyl ester (TMSSME) and its TBDMS- (TBDMSSME) and TIPS-analogous (TIPSSME) as novel silylation reagents to furnish silyl ethers from alcohols.

Manganese(I)-Catalyzed α-Alkenylation of Ketones Using Primary Alcohols.

open access: yesOrganic Letters, 2019
A simple protocol of manganese catalyzed selective α-alkenylation of ketones using primary alcohols is reported. The reactions proceeded well with a low loading of catalyst (0.3 mol %).

Efficient Synthesis and Reaction Kinetics of Readily Water Soluble Esters Containing Sulfonic Groups

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
A series of various readily water soluble esters were synthesized by a very efficient procedure. These compounds can be useful as thermosensitive tracers for studying the cooling progress in a low enthalpy georeservoir exploitable by double flash ...

Cytochrome P450 family member CYP96B5 hydroxylates alkanes to primary alcohols and is involved in rice leaf cuticular wax synthesis.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2019
Odd-numbered primary alcohols are components of plant cuticular wax, but their biosynthesis remains unknown. We isolated a rice wax crystal-sparse leaf 5 (WSL5) gene using a map-based cloning strategy.

Acid-catalysed carboxymethylation, methylation and dehydration of alcohols and phenols with dimethyl carbonate under mild conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) chemistry has been extended to include acid-catalysed reactions of different aliphatic alcohols and phenols. For the first time, p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA), H2SO4, AlCl3 and FeCl3 have been shown to aid carboxymethylation for ...

Ketone Synthesis by a Nickel-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative Cross-Coupling of Primary Alcohols.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2019
An intermolecular coupling of primary alcohols and organotriflates has been developed to provide ketones by the action of a Ni(0) catalyst. This oxidative transformation is proposed to occur by the union of three distinct catalytic cycles.

Scientific Opinion on Flavouring Group Evaluation 3, Revision 2 (FGE.03Rev2): Acetals of branched‐ and straight‐chain aliphatic saturated primary alcohols and branched‐ and straight‐chain saturated or unsaturated aldehydes, an ester of a hemiacetal and an orthoester of formic acid, from chemical groups 1, 2 and 4

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2011
The Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids of the European Food Safety Authority was requested to evaluate one flavouring substance, acetaldehyde ethyl isopropyl acetal [FL‐no: 06.137], structurally related to the 58 ...

Review of catalytic systems and thermodynamics for the Guerbet condensation reaction and challenges for biomass valorization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Guerbet condensation reaction is an alcohol coupling reaction that has been known for more than a century. Because of the increasing availability of bio-based alcohol feedstock, this reaction is of growing importance and interest in terms of value ...
