Long‐term results after sutureless intrascleral fixation of the Carlevale intraocular lens: Changes in scleral pocket thickness over time

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate the long‐term effects and dynamic changes in scleral thickness above the T‐haptic after sutureless scleral‐fixated intraocular lens (sSFIOL) implantation using the FIL‐SFF Carlevale lens. Setting Single‐centre, single‐surgeon, prospective clinical trial, Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria.

Estimating uveal melanoma volume with ellipsoid tumour models

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Ellipsoid tumour models are used to approximate the tumour volume of uveal melanomas, as the conventionally used ultrasound does not provide a three‐dimensional visualization of the tumour. However, these models are a simplification of the actual tumour geometry.

Cumulative incidence of macular edema in non‐infectious uveitis indicates an early therapeutic window

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Uveitis‐associated macular edema (UME) is a significant cause of visual impairment in non‐infectious uveitis (NIU). However, the UME incidence remains unclear. Here, we evaluated the cumulative incidence of UME. Methods Medical records of patients registered with a uveitis diagnosis code between 2010 and2024 were assessed to validate ...

Molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying gyrate atrophy: Why is the retina primarily affected?

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina (GACR; OMIM #258870) is a rare early‐onset autosomal recessive disorder, caused by bi‐allelic pathogenic variants in the gene coding for ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) resulting in hyperornithinaemia.

Effect of anticholinergic eye drops on intraorbital, periorbital and brain pulsation power

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The study aims to investigate the effect of pharmacologically reducing parasympathetic activity on ocular and cerebral pulsations, inspired by recent discoveries of a glymphatic‐like system in the eye driven by physiological pulsations.
