Biallelic FGF4 Variants Linked to Thoracic Dystrophy and Respiratory Insufficiency

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
We report three people from two unrelated families with a clinical diagnosis of thoracic dystrophy characterized by short or missing ribs, narrow chest, and respiratory insufficiency. Affected people each have rare, biallelic, predicted deleterious missense substitutions in FGF4, a gene known to be essential for the formation of the thoracic skeleton ...

Implication of GPRASP2 in the Proliferation and Hair Cell‐Forming of Cochlear Supporting Cells

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram of GPRASP2‐mediated SCs proliferation and HCs formation. GPRASP2 deficiency results in increased lysosomal degradation of SMO. GPRASP2‐mediated SMO/GLI1 signalling promotes SC proliferation, which contributes to HC formation. GPRASP2‐mediated SMO/β‐catenin signalling is implicated in HCs fate specification and differentiation ...

Mitonuclear Communication in Stem Cell Function

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
In this review, we highlight the critical functions of mitonuclear communication and its impact on mitochondrial proteostasis. Additionally, we examine how mitonuclear signalling influences stem cell function, offering new insights into cellular homeostasis, stem cell therapies, and the potential for lifespan extension.

Airway Basal Stem Cells Inflammatory Alterations in COVID‐19 and Mitigation by Mesenchymal Stem Cells

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Airway basal stem cells derived from COVID‐19 patients demonstrated pronounced goblet cell hyperplasia, inflammatory responses and tendencies toward fibrosis. Co‐culture with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) notably reduced these pathological changes, likely due to MSCs' regulatory effects on the interferon signalling pathway.

Ciliary IFT‐B Transportation Plays an Important Role in Human Endometrial Receptivity Establishment and is Disrupted in Recurrent Implantation Failure Patients

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Our results suggested that mitochondria‐accelerated motile cilia intraflagellar transport may be involved in endometrial microenvironment establishment. ABSTRACT The lack of accurate understanding of cellular physiology and pathophysiology during the WOI constitutes the major obstacle to correct diagnosis and treatment for patients with recurrent ...

Klotho Regulates Club Cell Senescence and Differentiation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
We speculated lack of Klotho (KL) would aggravate club cell senescence, which contributes to COPD inflammation. In this study, we collected chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) lung tissue using single‐cell RNA sequencing (scRNA‐seq), revealing club cell heterogeneity and cellular senescence in COPD.

A PHYSIOLOGICAL VIEW OF THE PRIMARY CILIUM

Annual Review of Physiology, 2005
▪ Abstract  The primary cilium, an organelle largely ignored by physiologists, functions both as a mechano-sensor and a chemo-sensor in renal tubular epithelia. This forgotten structure is critically involved in the determination of left-right sidedness during development and is a key factor in the development of polycystic kidney disease, as well as ...
