Frequency dynamics during high CCGT and wind penetrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Presented at AUPEC 2011, Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference, Brisbane, Australia, 25 - 28 September 2011Frequency stability is the paramount concern for secure and reliable operation of a power system. High wind penetration levels are

Coordinated Sending-End Power System Frequency Regulation via UHVDC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The continuous improvement of new energy penetration reduces the inertia of the system, which leads to the frequency deviation and the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) being easily exceeded.

Performance enhancement and optimization of primary frequency regulation of coal‐fired units under boundary conditions

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering
Under the dual‐carbon goal, due to the long‐term operation of thermal power units under wide load and frequent fluctuating load after heat supply transformation, the dynamic process of subcritical units is modeled, and a frequency modulation optimization

A Comprehensive Approach to Evaluate Frequency Control Strength of Power Systems

open access: yesIEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy
This industry-oriented paper introduces the concept of ‘frequency control strength’ as a novel approach to understand how different real-world power systems compare to each other in terms of effectiveness and performance of system-wide ...

Decentralized Demand Side Participation in Primary Frequency Control: Assessing the Impact of Response Rates

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Increasing renewable energy generation is leading to reduced inertia in electric power systems. This challenges conventional frequency control methods, as frequency deviations become faster and more pronounced. One possible approach to maintaining system

Comparison of the dynamic response of wind turbine primary frequency controllers [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2017
This paper presents a comparison of a variety of control strategies for the primary frequency control of wind power plants. These strategies include inertial as well as pitch angle regulators. The inertial control is sensitive to both the frequency variation through a standard droop control, and the rate of change of frequency.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Application of Battery Energy Storage Systems for Primary Frequency Control in Power Systems with High Renewable Energy Penetration

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
In power systems, high renewable energy penetration generally results in conventional synchronous generators being displaced. Hence, the power system inertia reduces, thus causing a larger frequency deviation when an imbalance between load and generation

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Frequency domain iterative feedforward/feedback tuning for MIMO ANVC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new iterative feedback/feed-forward tuning (IFFT) method is presented for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) control systems that relies on efficient computation of the negative gradient of the controller cost function in the frequency domain.
