Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1979After a brief survey of the factors that play a role in the etiopathogenesis of human hepatocellular carcinomas, a detailed description is given of the macroscopic and microscopic features of human liver cancers as well as their association with cirrhosis. The ultrastructural features of liver cancers of various degrees of differentiation are described.

Chemotherapy of primary liver cancer

Until now, surgery has been the only therapeutic modality that can significantly increase the life‐span of patients in early stages of disease. The age-justed mortality rates for primary liver cancer in nonwhites have increased in California due to a high immigrant population of Chinese and Japanese, while the white rates have remained relatively constant.

1988Primary malignant liver tumor is the most frequent malignoma worldwide. This is due mainly to a high incidence in Asian and African countries. Particularly in these countries, but also in Europe and other continents, most hepatocellular carcinomas are associated with liver cirrhosis.

Between 1970 and 1985, a diagnosis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma was established in 98 patients. Sixty-one cases developed in the presence of chronic liver disease, and only six of these were considered resectable. Of these, the median survival was 19 months. There was one perioperative death. Of the 98 tumors, 37 arose in normal livers.
