Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Primary Amyloidosis

Twelve patients with primary amyloidosis (AL) were investigated with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In 9 patients an abnormal thickening of the heart walls was present and in 2 macroglossia was found at MRI. T1 was significantly increased in liver (p<0.05) and subcutaneous fat (p<0.01) while it was decreased in the spleen (p<0.05).

Primary parametric resonance–primary resonance response of stiffened plates with moving boundary conditions

An approach is presented to investigate the nonlinear vibration of stiffened plates. A stiffened plate is divided into one plate and some stiffeners, with the plate considered to be geometrically nonlinear, and the stiffeners taken as geometrically nonlinear Euler beams.

Primary resonance of piezoelectric resonators

It is found that the nonlinear behavior of piezoelectric resonators is more complicated than that predicted by previous theories. Actually the resonators work as parametrically excited vibration systems. Mode-coupled equations are obtained by means of the boundary integration. The method of multiple scales is used to solve the equations.

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy in primary blepharospasm

Single-volume proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, localized to basal ganglia, was carried out in 10 patients with primary blepharospasm (PB) to assess the levels of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), creatine-phosphocreatine, and choline-containing compounds. NAA was reduced significantly in patients compared with control subjects.

Quenching of primary resonance by a superharmonic resonance

The author examines the reduction or enhancement of the response of a single-degree of freedom system to a primary resonant excitation by the addition of another resonant excitation. As an example, the case of superharmonic excitation is considered. A single-deggree-of-freedom system with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is considered.
