Project for Universal Management of Airways: guidelines for tracheal extubation
Summary Introduction Risk evaluation, strategy formulation and preparation are important to decreasing the incidence of adverse events associated with tracheal extubation. The focus of this guideline is tracheal extubation, but many of the principles outlined are relevant to all forms of discontinuation of airway management (tracheal extubation ...

Epidural emphysema associated with primary spontaneous pneumothorax [PDF]
A 21-year-old male patient was admitted with spontaneous pneumothorax, and no history of asthma. Closed drainage treatment was unsuccessful. Chest computed tomography demonstrated pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema with multiple air bubbles within the spinal canal between the levels Th3 and Th11.

ABSTRACT Aim This study aimed to investigate the incidence, risk factors and possible aetiology of sudden unexpected postnatal collapse (SUPC), a potentially fatal yet poorly understood event. Methods In a retrospective cohort, patient records from 483 284 infants born in Stockholm, Sweden, between 2002 and 2022 were screened for SUPC‐related diagnoses.

Music: a new cause of primary spontaneous pneumothorax [PDF]
Most cases of primary spontaneous pneumothorax are thought to be caused by air leaks at so-called "emphysema-like changes" or in areas of pleural porosity at the surface of the lung. Environmental pressure swings may cause air leaks as a result of transpulmonary pressure changes across areas of trapped gas in the distal lung.

ABSTRACT Aim To determine the effectiveness and feasibility of prophylactic thin‐catheter surfactant (TC‐S) in the delivery room in preventing intubation and mechanical ventilation in the first week after birth in extreme preterm infants. Methods The Extreme Preterm Infants Non‐invasive Surfactant Trial (EPINIST) was a pilot randomised controlled trial

A novel structural risk index for primary spontaneous pneumothorax: Ankara Numune Risk Index
Background: In this study, we aimed to reveal a novel risk index as a structural risk marker for primary spontanoeus pneumothorax using body mass index and chest height, structural risk factors for pneumothorax development.
