Informing evidence-based policy during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period: learning from a national evidence centre

open access: yesGlobal Health Research and Policy
Background The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the vital need for research to inform policy decision-making and save lives. The Wales COVID-19 Evidence Centre (WCEC) was established in March 2021 and funded for two years, to make evidence about the impact

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Optimizing the Incision Marking in Abdominoplasty: 2-year Series

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Background:. The resultant horizontal scar in abdominoplasty is primarily the result of 3 main factors: (1) preoperative skin marking planning, (2) undermining area, and (3) dermal adipose flap traction symmetry.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Recurrent Tachycardia, Abdominal, and Chest Pain as a Presentation of Stiff Person Syndrome

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine
Conclusion: In patients presenting with recurrent tachycardia, abdominal pain, and chest pain, SPS should be considered in the differential diagnosis. It is essential for non-neurologists to be familiar with this disorder.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Correlation Between Macroscopic Features of Ischemic Skin Injury and Subdermal Plexus Damage in Lipoabdominoplasty

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Background:. Skin necrosis after lipoabdominoplasty occurs in 1%–2.7% of cases. Before tissue necrosis develops, there is a transition period characterized by distinct ischemic injuries triggered by different mechanisms that can be identified ...
