An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

On pairs of equations with unequal powers of primes and powers of 2

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics
It is proved that every pair of sufficiently large even integers can be represented in the form of a pair of equations, each containing two squares of primes, two cubes of primes, two biquadrates of primes, and $ 30 $ powers of 2.

An Analytic Approximation to the Density of Twin Primes

open access: yesRecoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal, 2018
The highly irregular and rough fluctuations of the twin primes below or equal to a positive integer x are considered in this study. The occurrence of a twin prime on an interval [0,x] is assumed to be random.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Subliminal unconscious conflict alpha power inhibits supraliminal conscious symptom experience

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
Our approach is based on a tri-partite method of integrating psychodynamic hypotheses, cognitive subliminal processes, and psychophysiological alpha power measures.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Walking through the Gaussian Primes

open access: yes, 2019
The Gaussian Moat problem asks whether one can walk to infinity in the Gaussian integers using the Gaussian primes as stepping stones and taking bounded length steps or not.
