An Essay on the Primitive Meaning of the Character 鬼
Monumenta Serica, 1936The following essay is divided into three parts. In the first part, evidences are presented to show that, as a result of modern etymological researches, the traditional interpretation of as “what a man becomes after his death” can no longer be accepted as representing the primitive meaning of this character.

ON A CONJECTURE ON THE PERMUTATION CHARACTERS OF FINITE PRIMITIVE GROUPS
Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2019Let$G$be a finite group with two primitive permutation representations on the sets$\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}_{1}$and$\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}_{2}$and let$\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}_{1}$and$\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}_{2}$be the corresponding permutation characters. We consider the case in which the set of fixed-point-free elements of$G$on$\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}_{1 ...

Primitive inducing pairs for irreducible characters
Journal of Algebra, 2019Let \(\chi\) be an irreducible complex character of a finite group \(G\). If \(\chi\) is induced from a primitive character \(\xi\) of some subgroup \(H\) of \(G\), then the pair \((H, \xi)\) is called a primitive inducing pair for \(\chi\). In the paper under review, the authors investigate the general question that to what extent \(\chi\) uniquely ...

The External Meatal Notch as a Primitive Character
Nature, 1931THE majority of the many racial variations of the human tympanic bone result from the differing degrees of development of the lateral extensions of the annulus tympanicus. These lateral extensions typically develop as anterior and posterior elements which, by uniting at their ventral margins, complete the floor of the meatus acusticus externus.
