Note on primitive permutation groups and a diophantine equation
AbstractIt is shown that there are no transitive rank 3 extensions of the projective linear groups H, PSL(m,q) ⩽ H ⩽ PFL(m,q), for any prime power q and integer m ⩽ 3. In the course of the proof the diophantine equation 5m + 11 = xp2, where m, x are positive integers, arose.

Tailoring Symmetry Breaking in Engineered van der Waals Superlattices
We pioneer a scheme to tailor superpotentials in graphene based on intrinsic substrate electronic orders rather than twist angle. The resulting superpotential folds graphene's Dirac cones to either Γ$\Gamma$ or K‐points, leading to distinct symmetry behaviors.

Defect‐Templated Phase Engineering in Atomically Thin Metals
Graphene defects are transformed from passive imperfections into programmable templates for phase‐selective growth of atomically thin silver. Plasma‐generated boundary defects favor Ag(1), whereas sp3‐rich zero‐layer graphene promotes Ag(2). This defect‐directed intercalation links local graphene chemistry to crystalline phase, electronic structure ...

Permutations which make transitive groups primitive [PDF]
Abstract In this article we look into characterizing primitive groups in the following way. Given a primitive group we single out a subset of its generators such that these generators alone (the so-called primitive generators) imply the group is primitive.

Moiré Phase Mapping in Twisted Bilayer Liquid Crystals with Reconfigurable Light Polarization States
Twisted bilayer liquid crystals are developed by vertical stacking assembly of two liquid crystals having designer domains and optical properties. These moiré‐symmetry, twisted liquid crystals demonstrate reconfigurable polarization states, moiré patterns and phases controlled by twist angles, providing a route to design active optical devices for ...

Primitivity of Permutation Groups, Coherent Algebras and Matrices
The term ``primitive'' is used in many senses in algebra. In particular, a permutation group is primitive if it preserves no non-trivial equivalence relation; a coherent algebra (such as the centralizer algebra of a permutation group) is primitive if it does not contain the matrix of such a relation; and a real square matrix is primitive if some power ...

Applied here for the first time to a 2D material, high‐resolution synchrotron x‐ray Fourier transform holography directly images topological spin textures in Fe3GeTe2. Combined with atomistic tight‐binding simulations including itinerant electrons and Rashba spin‐orbit coupling, the approach reveals labyrinth, skyrmion, and mixed phases, and uncovers ...

Computation of Pólya polynomials of primitive permutation groups [PDF]
An almost complete list of Pólya polynomials of all primitive permutation groups up to degree 20 has been computed. The number-theoretical interpretation of Pólya polynomials and van der Waerden’s test make this a good tool to find safe conjectures for determining the group of an equation. This work was encouraged and supported by Professor W.
