Principal Basis Analysis in Sparse Representation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
This article introduces a new signal analysis method, which can be interpreted as a principal component analysis in sparse decomposition of the signal. The method, called principal basis analysis, is based on a novel criterion: reproducibility of component which is an intrinsic characteristic of regularity in natural signals.

Principal Component Analysis of Weak Lensing Surveys

open access: yes, 2005
We study degeneracies between cosmological parameters and measurement errors from cosmic shear surveys using a principal component analysis of the Fisher matrix.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

Visualisation of financial time series by linear principal component analysis and nonlinear principal component analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In this dissertation, the main goal is visualisation of financial time series. We expect that visualisation of financial time series will be a useful auxiliary for technical analysis. Firstly, we review the technical analysis methods and test our trading rules, which are built by the essential concepts of technical analysis.

Unconventional mRNA processing and degradation pathways for the polycistronic yrzI (spyTA) mRNA in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The S1025 peptide is the major antidote to the YrzI toxin, which we renamed here as SpyT (Small Peptide YrzI Toxin) and SpyA (Small Peptide YrzI Antitoxin) (1). Degradation of the toxin–antitoxin spyTA mRNA, either by a translation‐dependent cleavage by the endoribonuclease Rae1 (2) or by direct attack by 3′‐exoribonucleases (3), also contributes to ...

Regularized Principal Component Analysis for Spatial Data

open access: yes, 2016
In many atmospheric and earth sciences, it is of interest to identify dominant spatial patterns of variation based on data observed at $p$ locations and $n$ time points with the possibility that $p>n$. While principal component analysis (PCA) is commonly

A Review of Distributed Algorithms for Principal Component Analysis

open access: yesProceedings of the IEEE, 2018
Principal component analysis (PCA) is a fundamental primitive of many data analysis, array processing, and machine learning methods. In applications where extremely large arrays of data are involved, particularly in distributed data acquisition systems ...

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...
