Body‐wide chimerism and mosaicism are predominant causes of naturally occurring ABO discrepancies

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, Volume 205, Issue 3, Page 1188-1196, September 2024.
Routine blood group typing identified nine individuals with natural forms of ABO discrepancies, eight of them with an A/O and one with a B/O red cell phenotype mixture. Molecular genetic analyses revealed that the underlying cause in seven of them was a body‐wide chimerism and in two of them a body‐wide mosaicism.
