Adaptive Applications of Maximum Entropy Principle

International Conference on Advanced Computing and Intelligent Engineering, 2020
The probability distribution of a system can be adaptively derived using the maximum entropy principle subject to its information set in terms of probabilistic moments. The obtained probability distribution characterizes the wide range of exponential family of distributions when one maximizes Shannon entropy.

Principle of maximum entropy and irreversible processes

Physics Reports, 1980
Abstract More than twenty years have passed since E.T. Jaynes pioneered the information-theoretic approach to the foundations of statistical mechanics. In the intervening period numerous applications have been worked out and new insights developed into traditional problems.

Principle of maximum entropy in hydrologic frequency analysis

Journal of Hydrology, 1972
Abstract The principle of maximum entropy is used to develop a simplified but meaningful probability distribution of practical value in hydrologic frequency analysis, particularly in the area of scarce hydrologic data. The mean value and the standard deviation (or the coefficient of variation) are the only prior information required for the ...

Proposed Principles of Maximum Local Entropy Production

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2012
Articles have appeared that rely on the application of some form of "maximum local entropy production principle" (MEPP). This is usually an optimization principle that is supposed to compensate for the lack of structural information and measurements about complex systems, even systems as complex and as little characterized as the whole biosphere or the

Entropy estimation using the principle of maximum entropy

2011 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2011
In this paper, we present a novel entropy estimator for a given set of samples drawn from an unknown probability density function (PDF). Counter to other entropy estimators, the estimator presented here is parametric. The proposed estimator uses the maximum entropy principle to offer anm-term approximation to the underlying distribution and does not ...

Analysis of the maximum entropy principle ?debate?

Foundations of Physics, 1978
Jaynes's maximum entropy principle (MEP) is analyzed by considering in detail a recent controversy. Emphasis is placed on the inductive logical interpretation of “probability” and the concept of “total knowledge.” The relation of the MEP to relative frequencies is discussed, and a possible realm of its fruitful application is noted.

The principle of the maximum entropy method

High Pressure Research, 1996
Abstract The theoretical background of the maximum entropy method (MEM) when it is applied to restore the electron or nuclear densities from diffraction data is described. In MEM, the concept of “entropy” is introduced to deal with any incompleteness in an observation in a proper way.

Minimum uncertainty products from the principle of maximum entropy

Physical Review A, 1989
