Effect of ink transfer on print mottle in shrink films
Journal of Coatings Technology and Research, 2014The gravure printing process is considered a pioneer in long run package printing jobs, offering exceptional print quality teamed with high quantities. Shrink films, primarily polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene terephthalate-glycol modified (PET-G) are extensively printed using the rotogravure printing process.

It has been well documented that homogeneous coating structures are necessary for obtaining good, mottle-free printed papers. Methods such as mercury intrusion porosimetry are widely used in the paper industry, but will deliver a bulk porosity measure, which contains contributions from both the surface layers and the bulk of the coating.

Print mottling: Solid–liquid adhesion related to optical appearance
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2008Abstract Print mottling has been widely studied over the years and several reasons for uneven print have been pointed out. Factors affecting mottling are, e.g., heterogeneity of the coating layer, uneven absorption of the ink, ink properties and printing conditions such as machine settings. In this study, the focus was put on the adhesion between the

The influence of paper surface energy on multicolor offset print mottling
TAPPI Journal, 2014An evaluation of a series of commercial uncoated, semimatte, and glossy coated woodfree papers for the multicolor sheet-fed offset press is presented. This study is aimed at better understanding of mutual influences of surface free energy, paper surface roughness, and fountain solution on print mottling occurring in full-scale printing conditions. Each

EVALUATION OF PRINT MOTTLE IN TEXTILE PRINTING: IMPACT OF PRINTING METHODS ON MACRO NON-UNIFORMITIES
Proceedings - The Twelfth International Symposium GRID 2024Besides the quality of colour reproduction itself, there are other secondary print quality attributes. Secondary print quality evaluation is very important and is influenced primarily by the print method and type of substrate. For textile printers, there is an additional challenge related to macro non-uniformities due to the nature of the substrate ...

Study on the Assessment Method of Print Mottle Using Discrete Wavelet Analysis
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012Aiming at one of most common problems of print quality, print mottle, the evaluation method for print mottle is proposed by means of discrete wavelet analysis, in which the index of print mottle is built on the base of the coefficient of variance of denosing digital image. Then, it was applied on offset paper to check its performance.

Print mottle modelling relevant to human perception
In this research, a critical study of the print mottle indices related to human perception is presented. A particular aim is to try to model mottling indices and human perception based on various illumination conditions. The study is made using different paper grades printed by offset printing.openaire +1 more source
Research on Evaluating Method for Print Mottle Based on Digital Image Processing
2015Mottling is one of the most important printing defects in modern offset printing. It can be defined as undesired unevenness in perceived print density. In our research, the print mottle image on paper surface was acquired through a scanner, and then through software analysis. It was studied from the perspective of digital image processing.

Influence of selected sheet-fed offset printing conditions on primary mottling
Nordic Pulp & Paper Research JournalAbstract The key parameter in the printing process is the evenness of applying the ink layer on the printing substrate. It determines the quality of the produced prints. One of the many factors affecting the final evenness of the ink layer on the print is the phenomenon of mottling, which is caused by the non-uniform internal structure ...
