Analysis of printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) potential in exhaust waste heat recovery

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2022
Abstract Exhaust waste heat recovery technology based on power cycles requires high efficiency, low flow resistance, and a compact structure for exhaust gas heat exchangers. It is a huge challenge for traditional heat exchangers, such as double tube or shell and tube heat exchangers.

Investigation of Printed Circuit Heat Exchangers for VHTRs

Fourth International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor Technology, Volume 1, 2008
Very High Temperature Reactors (VHTRs) require high temperature (900–950 °C), high integrity, and high efficiency heat exchangers during normal and off-normal conditions. A class of compact heat exchangers, namely, the Printed Circuit Heat Exchangers (PCHEs), made of high temperature materials, found to have the above characteristics, are being ...

Optimization of Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger Using Exergy Analysis

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2015
A printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) with zigzag flow channels in a double-faced configuration was optimized to enhance its thermal–hydraulic performance. Using exergy analysis, the objective function was defined as the net exergy gain of the system considering the exergy gain by heat transfer and exergy loss due to friction in the channels.

Review on Mechanical Design of Printed Circuit Heat Exchangers

Volume 9: Student Paper Competition, 2017
As a critical component in the advanced non-light water nuclear power plants with indirect power cycles, an intermediate heat exchanger (IHX) is used to transfer the heat from the primary coolant system to the secondary system. Generally, such reactors are operated at very high temperatures and pressures.

Development of tritium permeation model for Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2016
Abstract The Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) has been noticed for its capability to provide process heat to various industrial processes due to its high operation temperature. However, this integration concept of VHTR and other industrial processes can potentially create a possibility of tritium exposure to other industrial processes and even to

Design Optimization of a Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger Using Surrogate Models

Journal of Fluid Machinery, 2011
Shape optimization of a Printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) has been performed by using three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (3-D RANS) analysis and surrogate modeling techniques. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of effectiveness of the PCHE term and pressure drop in the cold channels of the PCHE.

Performance Analysis of Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger for Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2017
A printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) was selected as the recuperator of supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle, and the segmental design method was employed to accommodate the rapid variations of properties of S-CO2. The local heat capacity rate ratio has crucial influences on the local thermal performance of PCHE, while having small ...
