Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Material Investigation and Effect of Printing Orientation, Tensile Speed, and Density on the Mechanical Behaviour of 3D Printed Parts

open access: yesAnnals of "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, Fascicle XII, Welding Equipment and Technology
Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is becoming one of the main manufacturing sources in most fields, due to its easy manipulation and time, and cost savings. It is the most favourable manufacturing technology for prototyping, unit or

Effects of Printing Parameters on the Fit of Implant-Supported 3D Printing Resin Prosthetics [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2019
The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of 3D printing parameters on fit and internal gap of 3D printed resin dental prosthesis. The dental model was simulated and fabricated for three-unit prostheses with two implants. One hundred prostheses were 3D printed with two-layer thicknesses for five build orientations using a resin ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.
