Life history and stock synthesis assessment of Prionotus punctatus (Teleostei, Triglidae) in southern Brazil

Fisheries Management and Ecology, 2023
AbstractAge, growth, and maturity of the bluewing searobin Prionotus punctatus were studied to assess its stock status in southern Brazil. Total length compositions, weight, sex, and maturity stage were recorded from commercial landings, and ages were estimated from transverse sections of the sagittal otolith. The oldest observed specimen was a 12‐year‐

Geographic variation in Prionotus punctatus (Bloch) (Teleostei, Scorpaeniformes, Triglidae): a geometric morphometric analysis

2019
Patterns of geographic variation in body shape were analyzed in nine population samples of the searobin Prionotus punctatus (Bloch) from the northeastern, southeastern, and south Brazilian coast, using geometric morphometrics techniques. The nine samples were ordinated by canonical variate analysis into three groups corresponding to regions north and ...

What matters for intraspecific diet changes: the dietary differences between different areas or the increase in body size? The case of the searobin Prionotus punctatus in a tropical bay

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2019
Resource use diversity occurs when a population is composed of ecologically heterogeneous individuals who use only a subset of the population’s resource availability. The aim of this study was to examine the diet of juveniles, sub-adults and adults of Prionotus punctatus (40 to 190 mm Total Length - TL) to assess the importance of factors driving ...

First record of Prionotus punctatus (Triglidae) in central Patagonian waters, Southwest Atlantic: further evidence on the tropicalization of the Patagonian Sea

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom
Abstract A specimen of Prionotus punctatus was caught in Bahía Engaño, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina. This extends the known distribution by 900 km and a 5.5° further south from its previous southernmost record. This record increases the number of species of the genus Prionotus and the fish diversity of central Patagonia.
