Prior data for non‐normal priors
Statistics in Medicine, 2007AbstractData augmentation priors facilitate contextual evaluation of prior distributions and the generation of Bayesian outputs from frequentist software. Previous papers have presented approximate Bayesian methods using 2×2 tables of ‘prior data’ to represent lognormal relative‐risk priors in stratified and regression analyses.

The prior Prior: Neglected Early writings of Arthur N. Prior
The Heythrop Journal, 2002It is commonly presumed that the earliest recoverable writing of the New Zealand born Philosopher Arthur N. Prior is that published in the Australasian Journal of Philosophy and Psychology in 1937. Yet Prior was an extremely active writer as both an undergraduate and as a recent graduate, in a variety of publications.

When Bitstream Prior Meets Deep Prior
Proceedings of the 28th ACM International Conference on Multimedia, 2020The standard paradigm of video super-resolution (SR) is to generate the spatial-temporal coherent high-resolution (HR) sequence from the corresponding low-resolution (LR) version which has already been decoded from the bitstream. However, a highly practical while relatively under-studied way is enabling the built-in SR functionality in the decoder, in ...

People seem to expect that rules will be act-based rather than consequence-based. For instance, when people learn a new rule, given minimal evidence, they tend to think that the rule prohibits people from producing a certain consequence, rather than that the rule dictates that such a consequence should be minimized.

This paper explores the relationship between concepts of probability and hermeneutics. It seeks to examine the relationship between subjective (Bayesian) views of probability and hermeneutic descriptions of understanding. It is argued that Gadamer's account of the prejudicial nature of understanding, derived from Heidegger's analysis of ...

Mathematical Structures in Computer Science
Abstract We present an axiom system for what we call Prior’s Ideal Language and prove its completeness and pure completeness with respect to general models. With this is done, we explain, with examples, why this system provides a useful setting for exploring Arthur Prior’s work.
