Influence of Steel Recycling on Phase Transformation in Medium‐Manganese Third‐Generation Advanced High‐Strength Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
On the pathway to climate‐neutral steel production, recycling fractions will necessarily increase over time. Since alloying elements will enrich progressively, as they cannot be removed economically from the melt, processes need to be adjusted.

A Review of Austenite Memory Effect in HAZ of B Containing 9% Cr Martensitic Heat Resistant Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2019
During the welding process of B containing 9% Cr martensitic heat resistant steel (9Cr-B steel), austenite memory effect (referred to that the prior austenite grains in the heat affected zone (HAZ) after welding inherit the shape and size of prior ...

Recycling‐Induced Copper Contamination of a 42CrMo4 Quench and Tempering Steel—Scaling and Susceptibility to Hot Shortness

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
In this study, the susceptibility to copper‐induced hot shortness of the alloy 42CrMo4 is investigated by different hot tensile tests, as well as by a detailed analysis of the formed oxidation products. While an enrichment of metallic copper and a penetration of the grain boundaries are observed, no critical reduction of the tensile test properties can

Alteration of Phase Transformation Behavior and Prior Austenite Grain Structure Due to Elevated Tramp Element Concentrations in a Hypoeutectoid Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.

Prediction of Prior Austenite Grain Size of High-phosphorous Steels through Phase Transformation Simulation

open access: yesISIJ International, 2006
The effects of phosphorous content and cooling rate on the phase evolution of low carbon steels were analyzed by DICTRA simulation focusing on the micro-segregation behavior of phosphorous during solidification and subsequent cooling process. Through the phase transformation simulation, the effects of metallurgical parameters such as P content, cooling

Influence of Heat Treatment and Scan Rotation on the Microstructure of Hot Work Tool Steel Manufactured using Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of heat treatment and scan rotation on the microstructure of a modified H13 tool steel manufactured using laser powder bed fusion. Key findings include the refinement of prior austenite grains (PAGs) due to recrystallization and carbide pinning, and the significant impact of scan rotation on the size distribution of

Additive Manufacturing of Hot‐Work Tool Steel by In Situ Alloying Using Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Directed Energy Deposition—Strategies to Improve Chemical Homogeneity

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
To support future alloy development a powder mixture is processed by laser additive manufacturing. The powder mixture containing Mo‐ and W‐rich tracers is processed by powder bed fusion using single and double laser exposure and by directed energy deposition which provides drastically enlarged melt pools.
