Preserving security and privacy
IEEE Internet Computing, 2004At the "Computers, Freedom, and Privacy (CFP) Conference held in Berkeley, California, the spotlight was on the twin weights of national security and personal liberty - with technology the fulcrum on which all turns. It highlights included sessions devoted to the new international cybercrime treaty, a global crusade to spread technology to ...

In order to provide context--aware Location--Based Services, real location data of mobile users must be collected and analyzed by spatio--temporal data mining methods. However, the data mining methods need precise location data, while the mobile users want to protect their location privacy.

Privacy-Preserving Trust Negotiations
2005Trust negotiation is a promising approach for establishing trust in open systems, where sensitive interactions may often occur between entities with no prior knowledge of each other. Although several proposals today exist of systems for the management of trust negotiations none of them addresses in a comprehensive way the problem of privacy ...

Proceedings of the Twelfth ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining, 2019
The goals of learning from user data and preserving user privacy are often considered to be in conflict. This presentation will demonstrate that there are contexts when provable privacy guarantees can be an enabler for better web search and data mining (WSDM), and can empower researchers hoping to change the world by mining sensitive user data.

Mechanism for Privacy Preservation in VANETS
International Journal of Grid and High Performance Computing, 2010This paper proposes a mechanism for sustaining privacy of a vehicle in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) through pseudonym update. In a VANET, vehicles on the road are involved in dissemination of information as they move. An association can be formed between the physical location of the source vehicle and the transmitted messages.

An Airdrop that Preserves Recipient Privacy
2020A common approach to bootstrapping a new cryptocurrency is an airdrop, an arrangement in which existing users give away currency to entice new users to join. But current airdrops offer no recipient privacy: they leak which recipients have claimed the funds, and this information is easily linked to off-chain identities.

On Privacy-Preserving Cloud Auction
2016 IEEE 35th Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS), 2016Due to perceived fairness and allocation efficiency, cloud auctions for resource allocation and pricing have recently attracted significant attention. As an important economic property, truthfulness makes bidders reveal their true valuations for cloud resources to maximize their utilities.

Privacy-Preserving Outsourced Profiling
2010 IEEE 12th Conference on Commerce and Enterprise Computing, 2010Personalized services attract high-value customers. Knowing the preferences and habits of an individual customer, it is possible to offer to that customer well customized and adapted services, matching his needs and desires. This is advantageous for the entity offering the service (e.g., a retailer) as well, as it helps in creating additional sales or ...

Privacy-preserving fingercode authentication
Proceedings of the 12th ACM workshop on Multimedia and security, 2010We present a privacy preserving protocol for fingerprint-based authentication. We consider a scenario where a client equipped with a fingerprint reader is interested into learning if the acquired fingerprint belongs to the database of authorized entities managed by a server.
